Terms of Use

These terms cover the Ori Notebook desktop beta as of July 2026. They will grow when Ori does; the effective date above always tells you which version you are reading.

The short version

• The beta is free to use.
• Your notes and files belong to you, entirely and always.
• The Ori AI panel needs an invite code and can change while in beta.
• AI runs through a provider you choose, under that provider's terms.
• Beta software is provided as is, without warranty.
• Stop any time by uninstalling; your files stay on your disk.

Who these terms are between

These terms are an agreement between you and dorsr, an independent developer (dOR), the publisher of Ori Notebook. By installing or using the app you accept them. If you install through the Microsoft Store, Microsoft's own store terms also govern the download and update mechanics; these terms govern the app itself.

Your notes are yours

Ori claims no ownership of and no license over anything you write, draw, import, or keep in your notebook. Your notes are plain files in folders you choose. They never pass through Ori's servers, and nothing in these terms gives us any right to them. Uninstalling the app does not touch your notebook folders.

Your license to use Ori

During the beta you have a free, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and run Ori Notebook on devices you control. The app's code remains the publisher's property. Please do not resell the app or pass off modified builds as official Ori releases. The beta being free is not a promise that every future feature will be free; the local notebook staying yours is a promise.

The Ori panel is an invited beta

The AI panel is licensed separately and unlocks with an invite code. Codes are personal: share the app with anyone, but keep your code to yourself and do not resell it. We can add, change, pause, or end beta features and beta access at any time; that is what beta means. When a panel license ends or is revoked, the panel locks and everything else keeps working. Revocation applies to the panel, never to your notes.

You bring the AI

AI features run through a provider you connect: your own Anthropic or OpenAI-compatible key, or a local agent signed in under your own account. Your relationship with that provider, including its costs, limits, and content rules, is between you and them. You are responsible for what you choose to send and for having the right to share it. AI output can be wrong or incomplete; review it before you rely on it. Ori stages AI edits as proposals precisely so nothing lands in your notes without your say.

Fair use of the license service

The service that activates and renews the panel is small and shared. Do not attack it, flood it, or try to mint, forge, or circumvent licenses. Do not use Ori to break the law or to harm others. That is the whole list.

Updates and the beta lifecycle

Beta software moves. Features can change or leave, and updates arrive through the channel you installed from: the Microsoft Store updates Store installs, and direct downloads stage updates themselves and apply them when you restart. The license service can have downtime, and the beta may one day be retired or replaced by something better. If that happens, the notebook keeps working locally; only the licensed panel and its service go quiet.

No warranty

Ori Notebook is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, to the fullest extent the law allows. It is a beta: expect rough edges, and keep backups of anything precious. Your notes are plain files, so a backup is just a copy of a folder.

Limits on liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the publisher is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost data, profits, or goodwill, arising from use of the beta. Total liability for any claim is capped at the amount you paid for Ori in the twelve months before the claim arose, and the beta is free. Some places do not allow parts of these limits, so they may not fully apply to you. Nothing here removes consumer rights that your local law says cannot be waived.

Open source inside

Ori stands on open-source components, each under its own license. A consolidated notices list is being prepared to ship with the app; until it does, ask at support@dorsr.com and we will send the list for your version.

Ending things

You can stop using Ori at any time by uninstalling it; your notebook folders stay on your disk, untouched. We can suspend or end a panel license if these terms are broken or the service is abused. The parts of these terms that by their nature outlive the app survive it: your ownership of your notes, and the warranty and liability sections.

Changes to these terms

When Ori grows into public downloads, accounts, or paid plans, these terms will grow with it. The effective date at the top always names the current version, and material changes will be called out on this page before they apply to you.
